At NVMC we are committed to making you as safe and confident as possible for and after your test, as opposed to just teaching people how to pass their test.

I’ve had bad experiences with another training school, will you take me on and will your instructors shout and get angry at me?

We pride ourselves on our instructor’s professionalism towards all our students regardless of ability or gender etc. and our instructors will never shout or get angry with anyone, everyone has to learn some time after all and they were once in your shoes! We welcome any feedback (be it good or bad, anonymous or given in person) so if should you want to tell us anything please send us an email or letter or simply tell us!

I’ve found another training school which are marginally cheaper than you, why the price difference?

Whilst training with us you will be in our purpose built heated/air-conditioned class room with white boards and projectors or on our designated cordoned off training site using reliable radio’s amongst various other extra facilities. We would like to believe our superior facilities, equipment and experienced instructors are worth the price difference. Don’t believe us? Check out our testimonial section.

I’ve been off the road on a bike for a long period of time and am a bit rusty; are there any courses which I can take to refresh my skills?

We offer a 'Refresher' lessons which as with normal lessons is priced at £70 per 2 hours. During these lessons it is entirely up to you what you go over and we will tailor the lesson to suit your individual needs. We can start off on site before moving onto the road or go straight onto the road, it’s entirely up to you which and then what you want us to go over with you.

What is a CBT?

CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training. It is a basic training course which, once completed, makes it legal for you to ride a moped (if you are under 17) or a motorcycle up to 125cc (if you are over) on the road, with L plates and the correct insurance. You can not however ride on the motorway or carry passengers. The CBT certificate is valid for two years. If you don’t pass your test within two years of doing your CBT, you will have to do the CBT again to carry on riding.

What happens on a CBT?

The CBT is usually completed in a day. The first part of the training is classroom based, which normally starts with a talk about clothing and protective wear. Then you’ll move on to the training ground where you’ll get to know your bike and about some simple checks you can do to make sure the bike is kept in good order.

On the training ground, you’ll learn to move off and stop and manoeuvre your bike around safely. Back in the classroom, you’ll learn about life out on the road and talk about how to deal with junctions and other traffic. The day finishes with a two hour road ride under the supervision of one of our instructors. You’ll have a radio link to the instructor, so that they can talk to you and help you as you go. It is an enjoyable day and we encourage you to get the most out of it by asking questions through the whole day.

Do I need to pass my theory before taking a CBT course?

No you do not need to pass your theory test at this stage, however if it is your wish to go straight through to the Module 1 and Module 2 tests it is a good idea to pass the theory sooner rather than later as it has a life span of 2 years.

What if I fail?

It is not possible to fail a CBT as it is NOT a test. It is a one day training course in which you will be taught and shown only the basic skills and controls required to be safe on the public roads. If however you do not manage to show a basic level of safety on the road ride section you may need to take further training to achieve this level, but this rarely happens!

I have no motorcycle equipment!

A good pair of jeans, shoes (not trainers and preferably without laces), gloves (on sale in our shop from as little as £14.99) and a stout jacket is all you need to be able to ride. We have a selection of helmets that you may hire for the day for £5.00

Where on my license does it tell me what I can ride?

On the paper part of your license it should tell you your provisional entitlement. This is located on the left hand side and should read cat A for a motorcycle and /or cat P for a moped. Without the relevant license you would not be able to ride, so please check your license before booking.

I have an old style licence, do I need to exchange for a new one now?

The old style licence is perfectly legal. Do not change your licence if you are going for test. The old style licence is perfectly legal and you MUST have your licence with you on the day of your test!
